There are times when you have a pile of “rejects” from the client. This poster represents an idea that has grown out of numerous “rejects”. A few of the original designs,  I thought were pretty darn awesome. Others, not so hot. This was the last idea sent along that have not received approval or rejection. With great excitement to get away from the computer and get my hands dirty. I took my Saturday and ventured to the basement to experiment. The goal for me was to visualize how overprinting with different colors of silk-screen ink looks on chipboard and 110# card stock.

So, Shindell. Scott should be receiving a package in the mail soon. Now, you have some posters for what some call: “Shits and Giggles”. Enjoy!

The concept was to visually represent the variation and amount of ideas inspired by the visit of these very different and profound guests.

The light bulbs are all individually drawn, no two are the same. The distorted text was photographed through a large slab of glass creating refracted perception only glass can create. Our choice of florescent inks represent the risk taking and safety by glass artists. Metallic ink was used to represent the reflection/change of light across the page that paper and ink so often is not associated.

This is a project that has been out for a while, I recently reconnected with Richard and he gave me a few extra CD’s to photograph. The project was completed exclusively using email. Richard lives in Argentina and I live in Rochester, New York.

After listening to the album and version-ing many ideas from Shindell, I proposed using a sequence of images from the plains of South Dakota. They came from a project I did in 2005, DRIVE PROJECT. These photos are much like the landscapes you would see, south of Delia. Delia is near Lawrence, Kansas. The name of the album came from a verse in the song. Delia is the un-official center of the USA. If you draw lines from corner to corner you will most likely find the center over Delia/Lawrence, Kansas.

Richard Shindell is a singer-songwriter. He is in my top 5 living male songwriters. Someone that you should know… I highly recommend checking out his music.
